Igls

Igls Ski Resort

As part of the Innsbruck Glacial Ski/Stubai SuperSki Area and home of the 1976 Olympics, where Franz Klammer took gold, Igls strikes up the right balance of quaint, Austrian Tyrol village and a deep-rooted skiing culture. Igls is considered to be one of the SuperSki’s most beautiful villages. Igls is convenient to five airports—just a two hour drive—so international and weekend warriors alike can get to the resort quite easily. The view of Innsbruck from Igls is one of the best in the region. Igls is also a great base for anyone looking to enjoy non-skiing winter activities, including tobogganing, bobsledding, ice skating, Alpine curling and indoor activities like tennis.

Ski Igls

Igls provides ski terrain above 2,000 meters (or 6,500-plus feet) so you’re pretty much guaranteed great snow conditions, but if Uller (the God of snow) isn’t cooperating, the ski area has nearly 20 snow guns to make up for it. Igls skiing is particularly enjoy by intermediates and those with a penchant for gracefully arching down meticulous groomers. Igls many red pistes are some of the best in the area—especially the Olympic runs. Beginners have a lot of options at Palschertkofel ski area, and first-timers have an ideal “learn to ski” zone in the center of the village. Expert skiers can take advantage of the Stubai Glacier’s high alpine, more challenging ski terrain, which is accessed on a SuperSki lift ticket. The resort in its entirety is 285 kilometers or 177 miles—experts have a lot of terrain to discover.
