Silver Star photo gallery

What was originally a local’s ski hill back in the 1960’s, Silver Star Mountain Resort has evolved into a world-class destination with over 3,000 acres of skiable terrain and a charming and vibrant village equipped to entertain locals and visitors alike. Because it lacks international fame, unlike some other Canadian ski resorts, you won’t find intimidating crowds or never-ending lift lines. Located high above British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, Silver Star is renowned for its light, dry snow, of which it sees an average of 23 feet annually. Its 115 runs spread across three mountain faces with varied terrain including long groomed cruisers, steep powder-filled chutes on its famous back side, and a Telus terrain park accommodates all levels of skiers and riders. Add that to its quaint and colorful resort village and Silver Star has become one of Canada’s favorite family resorts.

Silver Star is also a renowned cross-country skiing destination, many national teams including Canada’s and the U.S.’s, will train on the area’s 93-plus miles of trails.

When the lifts stop running, or your legs just can’t take any more fresh powder, simply ski back to your doorstep—all accommodations in the village are ski-in, ski-out. Enjoy a nice soak in a private hot tub overlooking the Monashee mountain range or head into the village, which offers an assortment of dining, bar and entertainment options. Reminiscent of an early 1900’s mining town, the bars, restaurants and shops that line Main Street are filled with long-time residents and local characters who help give Silver Star its down-to-earth, homey feel.

Despite being a lesser-known resort, Silver Star is actually quite accessible. The resort is just 12 miles from Vernon, B.C., and Kelowna Airport is a mere 30 minutes from there, so you have plenty of options for ground transportation or rental cars.

Silver Star Ski Resort

There’s no need for snow-making machines at Silver Star, the area’s natural climate and tendency to get a lot of snow makes for unbeatable snow conditions. Advanced and expert skiers will find that Putnam Creek is a challenge-seekers haven. The area is nearly entirely black or double black diamond and offers access to Silver Star’s backcountry zone. More advanced intermediates can also enjoy some of the more challenging blue runs in the Putnam Creek area. The Attridge area also provides some more challenging blue runs. Intermediates looking to learn to ski deep glades have perfect terrain off the Silverwoods Express chairlift.

I tour a lot of resorts, and I always have my eyes open for ski areas that pack a lot of value into a family ski experience. I know how expensive it can be! Silverstar really impressed me when when I visited it. It has 3,065 skiable acres with a good mix of terrain for every level of ability, really affordable lodging and offers lots to do. There is snowshoeing, ice skating, great cross country skiing and awesome terrain parks. They also have night skiing, a tubing park and the newest addition...PINHEAD BOWLING! The world's first ski-in, ski-out ten pin bowling experience. I have never seen that in any other ski area! If you decide to give Silver Star a try, be sure to save a day or two and visit the Crystal Spa in Kewlona with its 3.5 million crystals infused throughout the hotel and spa, its infinity pool, dozens of steam baths, and the continent's first cold sauna. You will not be disappointed! Call me and let me guide you through a trip to this gem in British Columbia!
